Nakuru is one of Kenya’s largest cities located in the Rift Valley.  As in most Rift communities, agriculture is the area’s main source of income.  After the elections of 2007, violence erupted in the region, taking the form of gangs equipped with machetes, clubs, and bows and arrows.  Following the initial clashes over the elections, violence continued, rooted in revenge attacks and deeper ethnic conflict reaching back generations.  In the end, dozens of civilians lost their lives or were injured and many more were displaced from their homes.

In Nakuru, SNA-K works with several excellent initiatives, including:

Active Citizens

Tumore Youth Group

Young Women Entrepreneurs Kenya

Kenya Muslims Youth Alliance

Provincial Peace Forum

Center for Transformational Leadership

Smart Vote Initiatives
