Burnt Forest

One of the worst hit areas in the 2007-08 election violence, Burn Forest is rebuilding.  Located in the northern Rift valley, Burnt Forest consists of ten villages and is predominantly home to the Kikuyu and Kalingin ethnic communities.   As in much of rural Kenya, land issues play a major role in conflict as one community can be seen as encroaching on the other’s land.  Unchecked, these land issues can lead to greater tension and violence when political disputes arise, just like they did in 2007-08.
