One of the worst hit areas in the 2007-08 election violence, Burn Forest is rebuilding. Located in the northern Rift valley, Burnt Forest consists of ten villages and is home to multiple ethnic communities. As in much of rural Kenya, land issues play a major role in conflict. Unchecked, these land issues can lead to greater tension and violence when political disputes arise, just like they did in 2007-08.
In Burnt Forest, many groups are working to resolve underlying conflicts and maintain peace. SNA-K has had the privilege of partnering with:
Intercommunity Peace Choir
Burnt Forest Reconciliation
Catholic Justice and Peace Commission (CJPC)
District Peace Committee (DPC)
Burnt Forest Ambassadors Youth Group
